We are right where we left you last time - Christiansted, St. Croix. We don’t have a ton of new things to report as we wait on a weather window to Martinique, but we did get another video created and it’s uploaded under the ’Videos’ tab here on the website or you can watch it below.
We are starting to get a little antsy to move on, but have been finding ways to fill our days. Mostly, we tinker in our hobbies (reading, baking, editing videos, wandering on land), small boat projects (like scrubbing the reef that was starting to grow on Vagari’s bottom), and playing with Bosun.
Speaking of Bosun, we owe you an update. He’s really become accustomed to life on the boat. He quickly learned to potty on the bow, climb the stairs from down below to the cockpit, and jump from the boat to the dinghy and vice versa. He has fallen in love with the speed of the dinghy and recognizes the outboard motor key. As soon as he sees it, he’s in the cockpit waiting for the ‘dinghy’ command to jump in. He’s realized the boat is his territory and has taken to patrolling occasionally at night. He’ll sleep in the cockpit (by choice; he’s welcomed down below) and occasionally walk a lap on deck throughout the night. We sometimes hear him give a warning bark to anything that he deems too close. We gladly welcome the extra security! He knows his basic commands already - sit, down, and stay - as well as his boat specific ones, such as ‘dinghy’ and ‘cockpit’. We are practicing his leash walking, as there are a lot of chickens roaming free and he is quite intrigued. When off leash on the beach, we are still working on his ’come’ command, but it is much improved! Overall, he’s added so much joy to our lives. It’s hard to remember how we filled our days before him. Keith is now best friends with the vacuum as Bosun is shedding these days and he likes a tidy boat. Unfortunately, ours had been on the outs and it finally died just the other day. We have a small shop vac we’ve been using this week… it gets the job done, but not ideal. Note to self: add vacuum to the shopping list.
Fingers crossed the weather window holds for this coming week… still craving those French wines and cheese!
Much love,
Keith & Becca
